Pathways toward college enrollment or workforce readiness.
This connection allows youth to stay focused on their education while gaining the skills they need for adulthood.

Bridging the Gap Between Foster Care and Adulthood
The Transitional Living Home at Middle College is a supportive housing option operated by KVC West Virginia for young women in foster care who are preparing for independence while continuing their education through Middle College.
This home offers so much more than a place to live. It provides structure, daily guidance and a clear path forward, helping young women strengthen life skills, stay engaged in school and build confidence as they move toward adulthood.
Many young women in foster care approach adulthood without the stability, support or educational opportunities they need to thrive. KVC West Virginia created the Transitional Living Home at Middle College to provide a safe, structured, home-like environment where young women can continue their education while building the skills needed for independent living.
This program is uniquely strengthened by a partnership with Fairmont State University and the West Virginia Department of Education, giving youth direct access to Middle College programming, dual-credit coursework and on-campus academic support.
The Transitional Living Home at Middle College serves young women ages 17–21 who are currently in the custody of the State of West Virginia (DOHS) and are preparing for adulthood while continuing their education.
Important: Youth must be in state custody to be eligible for placement in the home. Youth in relative or kinship care are not eligible for residence in the Transitional Living Home (though they may qualify for other Middle College services).
This home may be a strong fit for young women who:
- Are eligible for the Middle College program
- Want to complete high school, earn dual credit or explore vocational pathways
- Would benefit from a structured, home-like environment
- Are ready to build and practice independent living skills
- Respond well to daily guidance, accountability and encouragement
Eligibility is determined by readiness for both independent living and continued education.
Our approach is people-first and strengths-based. We partner with each young woman to understand her goals, identify her strengths and create a clear plan for the transition to adulthood.
Youth living in the home receive:
- A safe, structured and home-like living environment
- Daily guidance, coaching and consistent adult support
- Hands-on life skills development, including budgeting, cooking, transportation and apartment readiness
- Academic support and accountability through Middle College
- Career exploration and employment readiness planning
- Personalized planning for health, wellbeing and long-term stability
- Mentoring relationships and community connections
This home is designed to provide more than housing. It offers stability, structure and educational opportunity, helping young women move toward adulthood with confidence and a clear path forward.
